Feb. 25 - Brewer gets Reel to Real at the Brooks

The second installment of the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art's monthly Reel to Real series features director Craig Brewer (Hustle and Flow, Black Snake Moan) who will discuss the how he started making films in Memphis, show some "never-before-seen-footage" from his early films that he’s just recently developed from 16mm, and present the feature film for the evening: The Celebration.

It's Thursday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $6 for Brooks members, $8 non-members, free with VIP Film Pass.

Feb. 24 - 'Protect your work. Protect yourself.'

Memphis Area Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts is hosting a reception Wednesday, Feb. 24.

MAVLA exists to help artists -- including filmmakers and musicians -- set up a legal framework in which to do business.  Its goal is to help them take the next step to becoming professionals.

The reception is from 5-7 p.m. on the fourth floor of the new University of Memphis Law School at 1 N. Front St.

The event is open to artists in need of legal advice, arts organizations needing legal help and lawyers wanting to help artists.

Feb. 17 - Commission Board Meeting

Wednesday is a meeting of the Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission Board of Directors.

It's from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Malco's Studio on the Square, 2105 Court Avenue in Midtown.

The public is invited to attend.

Feb. 18 - Conversation with a Legend

The Memphis & Shelby County Music Commission will host the next segment of its second annual "Conversation With A Legend" series Feb. 18 at the Fogelman Executive Conference Center on the University of Memphis campus. Some of the most influential music icons in the world are right here in Memphis and during this series you will get a get a chance to meet and learn from them in an intimate conversational setting.

Legends scheduled to appear Feb. 18 include author and longtime Elvis friend George Klein, WLOK owner and general manager Art Gilliam and Stax R&B legends, The Soul Children. Complimentary refreshments will be served at 6 p.m.  The program will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Feb. 20 and 21 - Oscar nominated short films

On Location: MEMPHIS Monthly Film Screenings Series is screening the short films nominated for the 2010 Academy Awards. Showtimes are Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. and Feb. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art.
