Commission clients = $1 million-plus

Movie, television and related companies contributed more than $1 million to the local economy during the 2011-2012 fiscal year, according to the Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission's annual production report.

Read John Beifuss' story in The Commercial Appeal here that details what was reported to the Commission board Wednesday.

The story says: "Television producers were the biggest spenders, contributing more than $307,000 — an amount that on its own covers the $300,000 Film Commisson budget, contributed equally by Memphis and Shelby County government. Among the 21 programs that shot in Memphis or were based in Memphis while shooting segments in Mississippi and Arkansas were TLC's What Not to Wear, the Food Network's Restaurant: Impossible, Fox's America's Most Wanted and Comedy Central's The Colbert Report."

"Even in years with major feature films, TV has always been our meat and potatoes," said Linn Sitler, film commissioner.
