Paper Moon's 'Pilgrim Song' wins Oxford American prize

Memphis-based Paper Moon Films (Nick Case and Ryan Watt) is celebrating a big win by one of its projects.

Pilgrim Song, which premiered at SXSW in March, has won the coveted $10,000 Oxford American Best of the South Award at the Little Rock Film Festival this week. Directed by Martha Stephens, the independent film is about a middle-school music teacher who’s been laid off, is having romantic issues and needs to take some time to figure out what he wants in life. Stephens recently won Best Director at the Fantaspoa Film Festival in Brazil, so the film is getting some solid notice.

Congratulations to Nick and Ryan. Paper Moon has also produced "The Romance of Loneliness" and "Open Five," which were assisted by the Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission.
