Memphians in film: John R. Saunders

John R. Saunders, a 1992 graduate of the University of Memphis, was Second Assistant Director on the recent blockbuster film The Hunger Games.

Saunders has a long list of directing credits and got his start as a Production Assistant on the Memphis & Shelby County Film and Television Commission's first studio client, Great Balls of Fire.

Saunders was also a producer on Commission client project The Grace Card, but most of his work has been as AD on a number of high profile projects, including The Men Who Stare at Goats, Milk, Laurel Canyon, Vanilla Sky and Heist.

Early on after GBOF, he was PA on commission client films The Firm and The People vs. Larry Flynt. Later he was Key Set Production Assistant in Man on the Moon and Second Second Assistant Director on Walk the Line.

Congratulations on a successful career that started with opportunities presented by filmmakers who realized that Memphis has the locations and the talent to create great and successful films.
